JOHANNESBURG - The Emirates Lions kicked off their 2016 Super Rugby campaign in perfect fashion on Saturday morning with a 26-13 win over the Sunwolves.

The tournament newcomers, based in Tokyo put up a brave fight, fighting back from a 19-6 deficit.

Tries from Robbie Coetzee, Courtnal Skosan, Jaco Kriel and Lionel Mapoe set up the bonus point victory for Johan Ackermann’s men, who are looking to build on last year’s record breaking year for the franchise.

Elton Jantjies, who plays his club rugby in Japan, was out of sorts, missing multiple attempts at goal. He did eventually convert three of the four tries.

Next weekend they take on the New Zealand outfit the Chiefs in Waikato.
