Charles Standers can still be charged in assault case
Standers was placed on precautionary suspension by the DA after his wife opened a case of domestic violence.
CAPE TOWN - George Mayor Charles Standers, who allegedly assaulted his wife, could be off the hook but the Western Cape director of public prosecutions (DPP) still has to decide whether to charge him.
Standers was placed on precautionary suspension by the Democratic Alliance (DA) after his wife opened a case of domestic violence against him.
It's emerged Standers' wife has submitted a statement to the police withdrawing the complaint.
The police's Malcolm Pojie said, "The case hasn't been finalised yet as it is with the DPP or the senior prosecutors' office for a decisions."
