Mantashe introduces interim ANC WC chairperson & secretary
The ANC’s NWC recommended Marius Fransman & Faiez Jacobs step aside pending investigations
CAPE TOWN - African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General, Gwede Mantashe has today introduced the National Executive Committee members that will act as caretakers to assist the Western Cape ANC Provincial Offices of the chairperson and secretary.
ANC National Executive Committee members Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba and Sue van der Merwe are the caretakers that will lead the party's Western Cape office to the local government elections.
The party's National Working Committee had recommended to the NEC that both the ANC Western Cape Chairperson, Marius Fransman and Secretary Faiez Jacobs be asked to step aside pending investigations into known allegations.
The provincial office has been in turmoil since Fransman and Jacobs were asked to step aside.
Fransman is facing sexual harassment charges, while Jacobs is charged with assaulting a colleague.
NEC member Derek Hanekom explains why Letsatsi-Duba and Se van der Merwe were chosen to lead the party's troubled Western Cape branch.
"They were chosen as NEC members that the leadership has confidence in, who are ready to address some of the challenges in the province, working very closely with the elected leader."
The ANC says it was further recommended that two NEC officials be permanently placed in the Western Cape to assist both offices.
Mantashe, along with ANC Deputy Secretary General, Jessie Duarte, introduced the two NEC members to the PEC and communicated their expected roles in assisting Western Cape structures of the ANC.
