‘SA Mars chocolates safe for consumers to enjoy’
Mars Chocolate has recalled some of its products produced in the Netherlands.
JOHANNESBURG - Mars South Africa says a recall of chocolate products in 55 countries across the world will not affect local consumers.
Precautionary steps were taken by Mars Chocolate in the Netherlands on Tuesday to take a selection of Snickers, Mars, Milky Way and Celebration off the shelves after a customer in Germany found bits of plastic in a Snickers bar in January.
The recall only involves products manufactured at the Dutch plant.
Spokesperson for Mars South Africa, Tumi Masekela, says all chocolate bars that are currently on shelf are safe for consumers to enjoy.
"Fortunately, all of products that have been identified were still either in transit to South Africa or had just arrived so we were fortunate in that sense because we were able to isolate that entire stock and put it on hold. Therefore, we are able to confidently say that there is nothing on shelf that is impacted by this recall."
