CAPE TOWN – A Cape Town toddler remains in a stable condition in hospital after falling out of a moving train carriage and landing on the railway track.

The incident was reported between Diep River and Heathfield stations yesterday.

The two-year-old was with her parents at the time.

There are unconfirmed reports the train's doors allegedly opened before coming to a halt at the station.

The Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital spokesperson Angelique Jordan said, “The two-year-old girl was admitted with head injuries yesterday, but she is conscious and in a stable conditions.”

Metrorail says the matter is under investigation.
