Another cop arrested on several rape charges
An Ekurhuleni Metro Police officer is spending the weekend behind bars on charges of rape.
CAPE TOWN - While two Caledon police officers await their fate amid allegations of rape against them, an Ekurhuleni Metro Police officer also facing rape charges is spending the weekend in jail.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) says its waiting for technical reports, which include DNA results, before it can arrest the Caledon sergeant and constable.
One of the officers is accused of raping a 19-year-old woman in a field after he was supposed to take her to police holding cells last month.
Ipid says it's dealt with four cases of rape involving senior police officials in the month of January.
The directorate's Robbie Raburabu says in the latest incident a Metro Police superintendent is facing several charges of rape.
"He is charged with two counts of rape and two counts of kidnapping of two minor girls. He appeared in court for a bail application on 15th and it rolled over to the 16th. Bail was denied and the matter has been remanded to 16 March."
