Metrorail drivers fear for their lives
The service says its drivers have been assaulted by frustrated commuters in Joburg and Pretoria.
JOHANNESBURG - Metrorail says a number of train drivers have been assaulted in recent months by frustrated commuters.
The incidents have occurred between the Johannesburg and Pretoria corridor, with drivers now afraid to work.
It's understood commuters have been attacking the drivers when there have been delays.
Metrorail's Lilian Mofokeng says they condemn these acts of violence.
"We are pleading with the community as these people are there to serve them and ensure that they have transport. No matter how frustrating the delays may be, no one has the right to threaten or attack the drivers."
