CT men allegedly linked to Metro cop's murder released
The men, who allegedly shot & killed Ben Koopman, were released as there was not enough evidence.
CAPE TOWN - Two men arrested in connection with the murder of a Metro Police officer in Eerste River have been released.
The pair was taken into custody shortly after Ben Koopman was shot and killed outside his home earlier this week.
Metro Police Deputy Chief Yolanda Faro says there wasn't sufficient evidence linking the men to Koopman's death.
"The two suspects, who were arrested in connection with the murder of constable Koopman, were released due to insufficient evidence. However, the police and Hawks are following leads."
Koopman will be laid to rest next Saturday.
The Eerste River community is up in arms following the release of the two men.
The Kleinvlei Community Policing Forum (CPF)'s Julian Unthank says they're relying on video footage to identify the suspects.
"There is also video footage that will be able to verify and identify the two gentlemen responsible for the killing."
The Kleinvlei CPF has vowed to continue helping police in tracing the perpetrators.
