City of CT councillor accused of corruption
Sheval Arendse allegedly directed the wages of staff Tafelsig into his personal bank account.
CAPE TOWN - A City of Cape Town councillor will be facing a disciplinary committee for alleged maladministration and corruption.
Sheval Arendse is accused of directing the wages of staff employed at the Water Meter Project in Tafelsig into his personal bank account.
Arendse met with the city council speaker yesterday to discuss the allegations against him.
Speaker Dirk Smit says the council is taking the allegations very seriously.
"I told him that I am referring the matter to the disciplinary committee to make a finding and recommendation to council. I cannot elaborate further on this matter as it could jeopardise the process."
