Chiefs begin Caf Champions League campaign with win
The Soweto giants easily saw off Comoros’ outfit Volcan Club de Moroni 4-0.
CAPE TOWN - Kaizer Chiefs kicked off their Caf Champions League on a positive note on Sunday afternoon.
The Soweto giants easily saw off Comoros' outfit Volcan Club de Moroni 4-0 in the first leg of the preliminary round.
In the hot and humid Stade de Morini, Chiefs grabbed two first half goals courtesy of Bernard Parker and defender Erick Mathoho.
After the break, Mathoho then grabbed his second with substitutes Sula Matovu rounding off the scoring in a convincing display.
The second leg will take place later this month in Durban at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on 27 February.
On Saturday, Mamelodi Sundowns did not fair as well as their South African counterparts.
The Brazilians suffered a 1-0 loss against Zimbabwean side Chicken Inn in their preliminary round first leg tie.
A late first half goal gave the Bulawayo club a slight advantage going into the second leg on 27 February.
This defeat was Sundown's first since September signaling an end of a 19 match unbeaten run.
Pitso Mosimane will hope they can replicate their home form in the return leg, as they require a minimum of two goals to advance to the next stage.
