CAPE TOWN – A senior Hermanus police officer who was shot at a biker rally in Hawston, remains in a critical condition at a Cape Town hospital.

Rounita Burgess (48) is reportedly fighting for her life after she was shot in the head and chest eight days ago.

Her daughter, Randy, and a family friend, Rudi Salo, were both killed while two people were wounded during a shooting last weekend.

Burgess and Salo were buried in the Overberg town on Saturday.

A source close to the family said Burgess had opened her eyes, but unable to recognise visitors.

Police say no new suspects have been identified since the release of a man who was taken into custody in connection with the incident last week.

The 26-year-old was allowed to go due to a lack of evidence shortly before he was due to appear in court.

Police say officials will not speculate on possible motives for the shooting and have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
