Two SA bloggers up for Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award
Aisha Baker and Theodora Lee will compete for Africa’s favourite blog award.
JOHANNESBURG - Two South African bloggers are among nominees who will compete for a Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award in the US next month.
Theodora Lee and Aisha Baker are the second group to attend the award ceremony after TV personality Bonang Matheba won the award for 'South Africa's favourite radio Dj' last year.
The category for Favourite Blogger (Africa) is the first of its kind.
Baker, who has used her Bachelor of Commerce degree to monetize her website, will pave the way for bloggers who want to be taken seriously.
"It's an honour to be one of the first in that category alone. I am hoping that this will mean a lot more professional bloggers in our continent and also that clients will start realising that there is a lot that we can offer. So we can earn an income and keep doing what we love."
She has attracted at least 44,000 followers on Instagram with her style and beauty blog.
Lee, who has also made a career out of vlogging - a form of blogging using videos, says she quit her job with a television show nearly two years ago.
"I decided to take the plunge and go full time 'YouTubing' and since then that has been my main focus."
She says it can be a viable career.
"The way marketing and advertising is going, people are looking at alternatives to marketing their products. So it's in demand, especially overseas."
She has over 200,000 YouTube users subscribed to her channel.
