JOHANNESBURG - Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema says he and his party want the Gupta family to leave the country because they're tired of the corruption.

Malema is briefing the media after President Jacob Zuma's announcement that he would pay back an amount of money spent on his Nkandla home.

The EFF and Democratic Alliance had been given until 4pm tomorrow to respond to Zuma's proposal to pay back the money.

Malema says Gupta-affiliated news agencies are no longer welcome at EFF stories, calling out The New Age and ANN7, specifically.

He urged people to join the EFF March on 9 February to demonstrate against corruption.

The EFF leader says the Gupta family, Zuma and corruption must fall.

Malema says his party will not allow the president to corrupt South Africa and turn the country into another failed African state.

He says the red berets cannot allow a situation where South Africa is colonised by the Gupta family.

Zuma made the surprise proposal to the Constitutional Court this week, but the top court says it's up to the parties involved in the case to decide on how to proceed.

The DA has also rejected Zuma's proposal to repay some of the money spent on his Nkandla home.

It says the contents of the proposal do not comply with the Public Protector's findings on remedial action.

PUBLIC PROTECTOR

Malema has also raised serious concerns around the treatment of Public Protector Thuli Madonsela throughout the Nkandla scandal, saying her office has been weakened through sustained attacks.

Meanwhile, Madonsela says her office will first study the full details of what the president has proposed.

The matter is due to be heard in court next Tuesday.
