Family questions motive in Gauteng cop's death
Ekurhuleni officer Coert Jordaan was off-duty when he was stabbed while fishing at the Aston Lake.
JOHANNESBURG - The family of an Ekurhuleni Metro Police officer who was murdered while off duty has questioned whether he was targeted for making a high number of arrests in recent months.
Police are searching for a gang of men who stabbed Coert Jordaan to death at the Aston Lake in Springs while he was fishing on Wednesday.
His cellphone, vehicle and service pistol were stolen.
The deceased's brother-in-law Lourens Nel says Jordaan leaves his two-year-old daughter and wife behind.
"It doesn't make sense to me. He loved his job. I would've expected him to die on duty and not while he was fishing. We don't know what happened yet or why it happened. There are many unanswered questions."
