Man bust for possession of human tonsils
Police say a cleaner at a bank alerted authorities when she found the human parts in the bank's toilets.
JOHANNESBURG - A Mpumalanga court has ordered a man believed to be behind the stashing of human tonsils in a bank to remain in police custody while investigations continue.
Thirty-two-year-old Mholo Mashaba appeared in the Hazyview Periodical Court today on charges of possession of human body parts.
The body parts were found in a local First National Bank branch last week.
Police say a cleaner at the bank alerted authorities when she found the human parts in the bank's toilets.
The police's Gerald Sedibe says DNA tests are being conducted to see if the body parts belong to a 40-year-old man who was killed earlier that day in Tsakane, the same area that Mashaba is from.
"Today he was remanded in custody and the case postponed to 11 February. He'll appear before the same court. The case was postponed for further investigation and bail application."
