#SADrought: Over 3 million litres of water delivered to affected homes
Operation Hydrate started distributions earlier this month due to a massive drought gripping parts of SA.
JOHANNESBURG - Operation Hydrate says it had delivered 3.3 million litres of water to drought-affected households thus far.
The NGO, which started distributions earlier this month, received backing from corporate, civil society organisations and ordinary South Africans.
Coordinator Yaseen Theba says the public support has been encouraging.
"It's very seldom that you get a response from everybody, be it schools or corporate South Africa who are all coming together for one cause."
Collection efforts have also spread beyond households, to drought-affected farmers.
Roodepoort residents have joined Round Table Florida 21, a local organisation that delivers water to farmers.
Spokesperson Joseph Heckler says, "We understand that the farmers don't have water and the price of food will go up and the price of livestock will go up. This will penalise the whole country."
