NWU suspends SCR president for disrupting registration
The university has opened a case against SRC leader Linda Mabengwane for violating a court interdict.
JOHANNESBURG - North West University says it has instituted disciplinary procedures against suspended Mahikeng campus Student Representative Council (SRC) President, Linda Mabengwane, for violating a court interdict and disrupting registration.
The university obtained a court interdict last week, after disruptions to registration at the university by the SRC demanding an end to financial exclusion.
The university's management has now opened a case against Mabengwane for violating the interdict and for allegedly assaulting another student during registration yesterday.
Spokesperson Koos Degenaar says, "We have opened a case against him on account of violation of the court interdict that was issued against him last week, as well as the alleged assault of a fellow student. The university also temporarily suspended the president as a student, pending the finalisation of an investigation."
