TUT management looking into students' demands
The universitys PTA campus was closed for the day due to protest by workers and students over outsourcing.
JOHANNESBURG - The Tshwane University of Technology(TUT)'s Pretoria campus was closed for the day due to a protest by workers and students demanding an end to outsourcing.
The protest is being led by the Outsourcing Must Fall movement, as well as the Economic Freedom Fighters(EFF).
The workers are also demanding a basic salary of R10,000.
Protest action started with a vigil at the campus last night.
This morning the universitys vice chancellor, Lourens van Staden, accepted their memorandum.
TUT spokesperson Willa de Ruyter says theyre currently looking into the students demands.
Its only the Pretoria West campus that has been affected. We have suspended activities at this campus for today and we are engaging the memorandum now to look at the issues. The request was also for a response to the workers today still, so we are working towards it.
