CAPE TOWN – A Philippi man accused of beating seven-month-old Inganathi Mnyani to death is expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court today.

It’s alleged he severely assaulted his ex-girlfriend’s daughter a week ago during an argument.

He was arrested in Gugulethu a few days after the incident and has been in police custody since his arrest.

Andisiwe Mnyani says the man fled the scene of the crime after assaulting her little girl at his home in Brown's Farm.

The suspect's home was burned down by angry community members after the incident, while he was on the run from police.

He's facing charges of murder and assault.

Meanwhile, users on social media have called for justice ahead of the suspect's court appearance.
