Cops use force on Kempton Park residents
At least 300 people surrounded a police vehicle in Kempton Park claiming officers killed a man in the area.
JOHANNESBURG - Police have fired rubber bullets and thrown stun grenades at angry residents who charged at them in Kempton Park claiming they had killed a man caught with drugs.
Police have refused to comment, saying that Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid), is handling the situation.
As a police car drove away from the hospital entrance the crowd ran after it chanting angrily.
The crowd say this is the same police brutality that has happened before.
A tense stand off ensued and then police used rubber bullets and stun grenades to stop residents as they rushed towards them.
The residents began throwing stones and glass bottles with some members of the media caught in the crossfire.
The crowd has since dispersed from the area but a heavily armed police contingent is monitoring the situation.
