Alleged hospital rapist undergoes further psychiatric evaluation
The man (59) allegedly raped a patient at the South Rand Hospital this week.
JOHANNESBURG – A 59-year-old man is undergoing further psychiatric evaluation after allegedly raping a patient at the South Rand Hospital this week.
The man had just been discharged from the psychiatric unit at the same hospital when he allegedly attacked a woman waiting to see doctors in the emergency unit.
Gauteng Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu says they are reviewing CCTV footage to determine exactly what happened.
The man has since been re-admitted, this time to the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.
Another patient witnessed the incident and alerted staff members.
It's unclear why the psychiatric patient was left unattended.
Counselling has been offered to all affected parties.
