The first substation caught fire in Rynfield after 5am, followed by two smaller substations in Crystal Park.

Spokesperson William Ntladi says the first fire has been extinguished.

"I can also confirm that we've now got two other substations that are burning in Crystal Park. Firefighters are on that side."

WEST RAND OUTAGE

City Power says a fault with one of its cables at the Beyers Naudé substation has caused outages in Weltevredenpark, Randburg and surrounding areas.

Spokesperson Yumna Sheik says technicians are working on the problem.

"We're still awaiting feedback from the teams that are busy on site."
