Cops net R1m abalone in two separate busts
In one incident, police were responding to an accident scene when they found the abalone.
CAPE TOWN - Police have confiscated abalone valued at R1 million in two separate busts in the Western Cape this week.
Three people have been taken into custody.
In the first incident, two men were nabbed with abalone worth R600,000 on the N1 between Laingsburg and Beaufort West.
The pair were travelling to Johannesburg when they were stopped by traffic officials, who found the perlemoen hidden in the back of their vehicle.
The men are due in court next Wednesday.
In the second incident, R400,000 worth of abalone was seized between Barrydale and Ladismith.
The police were responding to an accident scene when they found the perlemoen.
The abalone was found in a car that was involved in a collision.
