JOHANNESBURG - Some motorists are reportedly stuck at the Gillooly's interchange interchange on the East Rand due to flooding.

The Ekurhuleni metro police’s Kobedi Mokheseng says two trucks are among the vehicles stuck on the stretch of the N3 highway in Bedfordview.

He says officers are on the scene, redirecting cars.

“We are advising motorists to use alternative routes and to also exercise caution there.”

This eyewitness says some drivers have tried to make it through but failed.

“The car is not moving at all and the water under the bridge is about 30-40 centimetres deep.”

Officials says a partially blocked drain is to blame for flooding on the N3 highway this afternoon.

Mokheseng says traffic is now starting to clear.

“We requested the assistance of emergency services and maintenance. They’ve actually attended to a drainage system that was partially blocked on the N12 west direction just where it joins the N3.”
