JOHANNESBURG - Two children have died after suffering from extreme heat when they were trapped inside an abandoned car in Clermont, west of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal.

The boy, aged three, and the girl, aged two, were playing with two other children when they were trapped in the car and fell unconscious.

Community members noticed them and rushed them to a local clinic where the pair died while the other two were rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

KZN emergency services Robert McKenzie says local authorities are investigating the incident.

“It’s believed the four children were playing in an old and unused vehicle when they reportedly became trapped inside. It’s not known how long they were in the vehicle; when community members realised this, they rescued the children form the vehicle before taking them to a local clinic.”
