CAPE TOWN - Cape Town firefighters have managed to contain a blaze raging on the mountain slopes at Devil’s Peak.

Officials have been working around the clock to extinguish the fire since it started yesterday.

While there is still heavy smoke in the area, authorities say the situation is still control, with firefighters still at the scene.

There were reports overnight that some homes had been evacuated as a precautionary measure while emergency services tried to prevent the blaze from spreading to a Vredehoek housing complex.

The city's Fire and Rescue Service's Liezl Moodie says, “Currently the city's Fire and Rescue Service are in the De Waal, Devil’s Peak area. The fire has been contained and in partial areas has been extinguished.”
