One of two suspects in SSA robbery case appear in court
The Hawks made a breakthrough in their investigation yesterday with the arrest of two men.
JOHANNESBURG - One of two men arrested on connection with a multi-million-rand burglary at the State Security Agency (SSA) headquarters has appeared in the Pretoria Magistrates Court.
The Hawks made a breakthrough in their investigation yesterday with the arrest of the two men.
The cash, an estimated R50-million in foreign currency, was stolen from the agency's high security offices in the east of Pretoria on 26 December 2015.
The police's Hangwani Mulaudzi says, "Initially we thought that we are going to take two people to court, but only one appeared. His case has been postponed to 19 January. The other suspect, I'm hoping that by Monday he will finally be in court. Currently, the guys are still on the ground, I am hoping that by Monday we will get a clearer picture as to what transpired."
The Hawks appealed to the public for help earlier this week when it released surveillance footage showing a hooded man walking down an office corridor.
Earlier, the department called for the swift arrest and prosecution of the criminals behind the theft.
