JOHANNESBURG - Police are investigating a kidnapping case after a 48-year-old Congolese man went missing last September in central Johannesburg.

Alain Kabongo was apparently accosted by four men posing as police officers at his Hillbrow flat.

The men claimed to have been investigating a drug smuggling case. Kabongo was then handcuffed and taken away.

The police’s Lungelo Dlamini says, “We believe, on reasonable grounds, that these suspects were not members of the South African Police Service but up to now we don’t know what the motive was for the kidnapping. At this stage we don’t know whether he was involved with drug dealing.”
