Bail application for Mozambique money smugglers continues
The pair were arrested at the Lebombo border a fortnight ago after police and customs officials found the cash
JOHANNESBURG - The bail application of two foreign nationals who allegedly tried to smuggle $5.5 million out of the country will continue in the Barbeton Magistrates Court this morning.
The pair were arrested at the Lebombo border a fortnight ago after police and customs officials found the cash hidden at the back of a bakkie.
The men were en route to Mozambique from Johannesburg when they were cornered.
Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi said, "They have been charged with money laundering and no other charges have been added as yet. The investigations are still continuing. There're other area which we still need to look at, so this is an ongoing investigation.
"It's going to take us some time but we're working very close with our Mozambican counterparts who are helping us with information."
