Calls for action against undocumented immigrants
A parliamentary committee has called on officials to clamp down on undocumented immigrants.
CAPE TOWN - Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs has called on law enforcement authorities to clamp down on undocumented immigrants.
According to officials, some 279 immigrants who had been travelling without the required papers, were intercepted in Limpopo during a recent road block.
The parliamentary committee says immigration regulations are in place to safeguard against human trafficking and illegal migration.
Committee chairperson Lemias Mashile said, "We support those operations. We want those operations to continue and want it to be expanded everywhere; even on our ports of entry to make sure than people without documentation are not allowed to come into the country."
