JOHANNESBURG - Six men have been arrested in connection with two recent police murders in KwaZulu-Natal.
The suspects are also wanted for several other crimes including business robberies and murder, which they committed in the province.
They were arrested near Eshowe today.
The police's Thulani Zwane said, "They were just outside Eshowe where they found the six suspects in a homestead and arrested all of them. They were linked to a number of crimes."
RECENT COP KILLINGS
Last week, Captain Kenneth Poortman was hijacked, stabbed to death and left alongside the Mabopane Highway in Pretoria.
On the same day, in KwaZulu-Natal, Constable Sibongiseni Mnguni was shot and killed in Isipingo.
Mnguni was rushed to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Last month, KwaZulu-Natal police launched a manhunt for a suspected hijacker who shot and killed a police officer and a security guard.
Authorities acted on a tip-off from community members alerting them of the whereabouts of the alleged criminal.
When officials arrived at the location, the man opened fire shooting the police man in the head and neck, and then killing the security guard.
The suspect fled the scene with the police vehicle.
At least 60 police officers have been killed in the past 12 months alone.
