Man accidentally kills himself while posing for selfie with a gun
Deleon Smith was taking a selfie when the gun he was using as a prop went off and shot him in the neck.
TEXAS - Police say a 19-year-old father of two died after he accidentally shot himself while posing for a selfie with a gun.
Deleon Smith died of a gunshot wound to the throat at an apartment in Southwestern Houston on Tuesday.
Investigators say Smith had found the gun and was taking pictures of himself, and a cousin, holding the weapon and posting them online when it went off.
While others may find such behaviour odd and intriguing, it seems more and more people around the world are risking their lives in the name of a perfect selfie.
In an interview with Reuters Assistant Professor of Communications at Ohio State University Jesse Fox, said selfies tend to attract a type of person already more likely to push the boundaries of normal behavior.
Her research says people exhibiting the so-called Dark Triad of personality traits - narcissism, Machiavellianism and psychopathy - are likely to pursue selfie glory regardless of who gets hurt in the process.
Several governments and regulatory bodies have now begun treating the selfie as a serious threat to public safety, leading them to launch public education.
