CAPE TOWN - Alleged 28s gang kingpin Ralph Stanfield, three policemen and two women are expected back in court today in connection with a gun licence fraud racket.

The group was arrested during joint sting operations in Cape Town and Pretoria last June.

The three Pretoria base officers also face firearm related charges.

The officers worked at the Pretoria Central Firearm Registry and are accused of fraudulently issuing gun licences to the underworld.

The syndicate came to light during an investigation into Stanfield conducted by the Western Cape's organised crime unit.

Stanfield's last court appearance was postponed for further investigation.

That was the second such postponement in two months.

The state prosecutor indicated this was necessary as the investigation had yet to be completed.

Stanfield is currently out on R100,000 bail.
