The Mother City transformed into 'Homeland' set
The award-winning drama series began production in Cape Town in June.
CAPE TOWN - As it films its fourth season in Cape Town, political thriller Homeland has transformed areas of the Mother City to look like parts of Islamabad, Kabul and Washington DC.
Showtime and Fox 21 earlier this year announced that the award-winning drama series would begin production in Cape Town in mid-June and continue until November.
In a Variety video uploaded onto Youtube, the creators say they approached the filming like a period piece and because South Africa has proven to be a versatile country with appropriate weather conditions, the task was not hugely daunting.
"Every extra has to be cast for ethnicity; every location has to be dressed because everything in Islamabad is muddy looking. We spend $100,000 just on automobiles to get modified to look like automobiles from Pakistan."
The series has previously been filmed in Israel, Puerto Rico and Morocco.
