Pistorius in Sandton club scuffle
The Olympic and Paralympic athlete claims a man approached him and aggressively engaged with him.
PRETORIA - Murder accused Oscar Pistorius has been involved in an argument at a trendy Sandton nightclub.
The incident took place at the VIP Room on Saturday night, a venue known for its high-end clientele and A-list guests.
Speaking through a statement released by his PR agency, the 27-year-old said a man approached him and aggressively engaged him on matters relating to his murder trial.
The Olympic and Paralympic athlete is facing charges in the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria for murdering his 29-year-old girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day last year.
He says he shot her by accident thinking she was an intruder but the state maintained a case of premeditated murder.
When the matter resumes in early August, both the state and defence teams will deliver closing argument.
Pistorius says they had an argument and asked to be left alone, before leaving the venue.
But Jared Mortimer, who was the other party to the squabble, says Pistorius was drunk and insulted his friends before poking him in the chest.
Mortimer says he pushed the athlete backwards off his feet and onto a chair when bouncers intervened to stop an all-out brawl.
The 'Blade Runner' says he regrets the decision to go to a public place and invite the unwelcomed attention.
