Pirates down Birds in derby

An 11th minute strike from Tlou Segolela helped the Buccaneers to fourth place on the table.

Orlando Pirates beat Moroka Swallows by a solitary goal on Saturday to go to fourth place on the PSL table.

JOHANNESBURG - Moroka Swallows' poor season was compounded with a 1-0 loss to Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

An 11th minute strike from Tlou Segolela proved to be the winner, helping the Buccaneers to fourth place on the table.

Platinum Stars are two points adrift despite their 2-1 win over Maritzburg United.

A 77th minute winner from Mahlatse Makudubela handed Dikwena their ninth win of the season.

At the King Zwelithini Stadium, a winner from Sthembiso Ngcobo set up an important away win for Bidvest Wits to keep the pressure on Mamelodi Sundowns for a place in the African Champions League.

For Arrows, the result was their 17th loss of the season, keeping them rooted to the bottom of the table.

With just four wins out of 22 matches, Shaun Bartlett's team is destined to play in the National First Division next season.

In a tense relegation battle between Polokwane City and Free State Stars, neither side could manage a winner.

Fans at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium were treated to two goals in as many minutes when Puleng Tlolane's opener was cancelled out by Luyolo Nomandela's equaliser.

The draw keeps Stars one point away from a dreaded promotion/relegation battle.

On Sunday Bloemfontein Celtic and Amazulu played out to a dull goalless draw, while goals from Anthony Laffor and Lebohang Mokoena set up a 2-1 win for Mamelodi Sundowns over the University of Pretoria.

The Brazilians are now level on points with Kazier Chiefs at the top of the table, although the Glamour Boys have two games in hand.

Both Chiefs and Supersport United were involved in CAF competitions on Saturday, with neither enjoying any success.

Stuart Baxter's men needed to overcome a three goal deficit thanks to a Ndombe Mubele hat-trick in the first leg against Congolese outfit AS Vita.

Goals from Knowledge Musona and Morgan Gould saw the men in black and gold win their home tie 2-0, but it wasn't enough to progress, crashing out of the competition 3-2 on aggregate.

They will now compete in the CAF Confederations Cup, the same competition SuperSport United were dumped out of.

They suffered a 4-1 second leg defeat to ES Sahel to lose 5-1 on aggregate.
