Klein-Kariba reserve turns into disaster zone

JOHANNESBURG – The Department of Human Settlements says it is providing aid to Gauteng families who have been affected by floods.
Heavy rainfall has left over seventy families displaced in the Vusumuzi informal settlement near Tembisa in Ekurhuleni.
In Soweto, ninety shacks were destroyed by floods in Kliptown due to an overflowing Klipspruit river.
In Limpopo a couple were reported missing after the Klein-Kariba Dam walls burst in Bela Bela, flooding a nearby holiday reserve.

With heavy rain expected to continue this weekend Joburg Emergency Service’s Robert Mulaudzi has urged Gauteng residents to avoid flooded areas and low lying bridges.
