Police have established a base near the gathering which Malema is expected to address shortly.
The partys main campaign truck, which will be put into action from this afternoon, is parked in front of the partys supporters.
Painted in red and yellow, the truck is mounted with large speakers currently playing political songs and slogans.
Down the road from where the EFF gathering is taking place, a handful of ANC supporters in their trademark yellow T-shirts are holding a rival meeting.
At the same time, ANC Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa is on the campaign trail in the Western Cape where concerned residents have expressed doubts over the partys promise to deliver housing.
