JOHANNESBURG - South African designer David Tlale has showcased his first solo runway collection at New York Fashion Week (NYFW).

Tlale presented his autumn/winter 2014 collection called ‘Elementary Metropolis’ at NYFW, one of the fashion world’s most highly anticipated events.

The designer is no stranger to NYFW, having showcased his designs three times previously at the prestigious event as part of a collection of South African designers.

Tlale said his first solo show was incredible and he feels like his career is just getting started.

“For our first runway solo showcasing, it was phenomenal. I feel like we have just begun.”

He showcased a ready-to-wear collection with his distinctive style toned down for the American market.

“We have done the frills, the feathers and now we are focusing on the business of fashion.”

Tlale’s next goal is getting his clothing into American stores.
