PRETORIA - Eyewitness News has learnt that South Gauteng High Court Judge Thokozile Masipa will preside over the murder case against Oscar Pistorius.

The blade runner will go on trial on 3 March for allegedly murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

Pistorius shot and killed Steenkamp at his Pretoria east home on Valentine’s Day but he claims it was a case of mistaken identity.

Masipa was appointed as a high court judge in 1998 and was the second black woman to be appointed to the bench.

It’s understood she will preside over the Pistorius murder case which has been set down from 3 to 20 March.

The National Prosecuting Authority’s Nathi Mncubi could not, however, confirm this.

The Beeld newspaper reported that Masipa was not specially chosen to handle this case, but that it landed on her roll along with other matters.

Masipa presided over and dismissed the R85-million unfair dismissal lawsuit brought by disgraced former Eskom Chief Executive Jacob Moroga against the company.
