Alleged rapist to appear court
It's alleged the man raped his 10-year-old neighbour on Christmas Day.
JOHANNESBURG - A 19-year-old man who was arrested for allegedly raping his 10-year-old neighbour in the North West is due to appear in the Itsoseng Magistrates Court on Friday morning.
It's alleged the man raped the girl on Christmas Day.
The police's Pelonomi Makau said, "The suspect who is alleged to be the victim's neighbour asked the victim to accompany him to a nearby village, with the trust the victim had for the suspect she agreed to accompany him. On the way to the village the suspect grabbed the victim and took her her a plantation where he allegedly raped her."
North West Premier Thandi Modise has called for the harshest sentences for rapists especially those who prey on young children.
Modise has described the act as ghastly and says the girl has been robbed of her innocence.
The man is said to have asked the girl to accompany him to a nearby village before stopping at a veld and allegedly attacking her.
The girl reportedly went home and told her mother who took her to a nearby hospital where it was confirmed she'd been raped.
The premier's spokesperson Lesiba Kgwele said, "She has called on no bail for the suspect. She has condemned the act and adds the man has robbed the girl of her innocence and betrayed her trust."
