Makro sells bottle of whisky for R300k
The retailer says it sold the 50-year-old Glenfiddich to an anonymous buyer.
JOHANNESBURG - Makro has confirmed it managed to sell the only bottle of 50-year-old Glenfiddich single malt whisky available in South Africa.
Makro Managing Director Doug Jones says an anonymous buyer paid the full R300,000 for the bottle.
"The bottle is in the country with our suppliers. They came in on Friday, made payment and today, we were pleased to deliver it to them. It was a seamless internet transfer."
He says they've asked their supplier to get them another one in case there is another thirsty South African on the lookout for the drink which costs R10,000 a shot.
