PRETORIA - Tshwane Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa has denied media reports that the city plans to spend R35 million to bring US pop superstar Beyonce Knowles to the country to kick off festivities at the Dinokeng festival.

The event, scheduled to take place in Cullinan in September 2014, will form part of celebrations to mark 20 years of democracy in South Africa.

Ramokgopa says R25 million has been set aside for the festival which officials hope will revitalise the local economy.

"There is malice behind these reports, that is the only conclusion. Any suggestion that we are spending R35 million to bring out Beyonce is preposterous."
