CAPE TOWN - Ajax Cape Town coach Jan Versleijen has resigned with immediate effect.

The move comes as a result of the Premiership club's decision to appoint Muhsin Ertuğral as its Technical Director.

Ajax is currently in danger of relegation, only three points from the bottom of the log with four matches left to play.

Versleijen has only been in charge at Ajax since January when Maarten Stekelenberg was sacked for poor results.

The Dutchman has failed to lift the club out of the relegation zone and has now left Ajax only days before a crucial Cape derby against Chippa United, who are three points behind Ajax at the bottom of the log.

Versleijen said he was very disappointed in the manner in which he found out about the appointment of Ertuğral.

He said he does not agree with the move, but has thanked the club for the opportunity and wished Ajax well for the current challenge of avoiding relegation and saving its future.
