Three deaths on Joburg roads

Paramedics said the cause of the accident is yet to be established.
JOHANNESBURG - Three people have been killed in separate accidents in Johannesburg in the past 24 hours.

In the latest incident a man was killed and two others injured when a delivery truck overturned on the R24 near Krugersdorp on the West Rand on Sunday.

Paramedics said the cause of the accident is yet to be established.

“The man died tragically on the scene due to the extent of injury he had sustained,” Netcare 911 spokesperson Santi Steinman explained.

Two others were killed in a head on collision on the R559, also on the West Rand.

ER24's Vanessa Jackson said the accident happened on Saturday night, “Three people in the Astra had passed away and [their bodies] were still trapped in the car.

“At a later stage the fire department had to use the Jaws of Life to cut the remains of the wreckage.

“We don’t really know what the cause of the accident was.”

In the Western Cape, one person died in a bus accident.

Traffic authorities said the bus and a vehicle collided on the N2 highway.

Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said the incident is being investigated.

“We had a head-on collision between a bakkie and a passenger bus.

“One person died in this accident and luckily there were no passengers in the bus.”

The accident follows the Hex River Valley bus incident. 24 people were killed.

The bus carrying about 80 members of the 12 Apostles Church was travelling from Mpumalanga to Cape Town and veered off the road on Friday.
