JOHANNESBURG - A motorcyclist was killed in a bike accident on Sunday morning on Beyers Naude Road in Rand Park Ridge.
It is believed the 28-year-old crashed into a stationary taxi, killing a woman, who was in the taxi.
Earlier, a couple in their late 40s were also killed in another bike accident, leaving one person in a critical condition in Hekpoort Road.
Netcare 911's Chris Botha says Jaws of Life were used to free the woman.
“The biker died due to the severe injuries that he had sustained. A female passenger who was in the taxi sustained very serious injuries.”
Meanwhile, Western Cape transport authorities said 30 drunk drivers were arrested on the province's roads this weekend.
Two pedestrians were also apprehended for being intoxicated.
The highest reading was recorded in Mossel Bay.
Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said there were several other arrests.
“One reckless and negligent driver was arrested and another driver was arrested in Vredenburg for being in possession of drugs.”
