CAPE TOWN - ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe has called for unity in the party's Western Cape branches.
Tensions ran high in province during the run-up to the ANC's Mangaung conference in December.
Following several attempts to hold a nomination conference, the province eventually chose Kgalema Motlanthe as its preferred candidate for the position of ANC president.
The chaotic process exposed divisions in the province.
Mantashe said the party needs to unite to remove the Democratic Alliance (DA) from power.
“They must organise membership structures and be visible on the ground so they can regain (power in) the Western Cape.”
