CARLETONVILLE - The ANC Women's League (ANCWL) on Thursday said it was shocked and outraged at the gang-rape of yet another young woman - this time in Carletonville on the West Rand in Johannesburg.
It is understood a group of 15 illegal miners beat the 23-year-old woman with knobkerries on Wednesday night.
They then dragged her into open veld where they then took turns raping her.
Eleven of the men were arrested and will appear at the Carletonville Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
The woman was taken to hospital and was discharged.
ANCWL spokesperson Troy Martens said, “After hearing what happened to the young girl it is heart-breaking. Words can’t even describe the horror she went through.
“It is not human nature to rape and gang-rape in such a manner."
Police are hunting for four more men.
Recently, 17-year-old Anene Booysen was gang-raped in Bredasdorp, in the Western Cape, last month. The men disembowelled her and she later died in hospital.
Three men have been arrested.
