PRETORIA - Gauteng police confirmed on Thursday that a high ranking officer shot and killed a suspected intruder at his Pretoria home.

It is understood two men broke into the lieutenant colonel's house, which he shares with his mother who used a wheelchair, on Tuesday night.

Police spokesperson Katlego Mogale said the officer shot both intruders.

One of them died on the scene while the other escaped.

Mogale said the wounded man fled in a getaway car which was parked outside the house.

“He got away in a white Opel Corsa and police are still looking for him.”
