JOHANNESBURG - Eyewitness News understands a man has appeared in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court in connection with the shooting of Chrysler South Africa CEO Trent Barcroft.
He was shot in the stomach during an attempted hijacking in Midrand, north of Johannesburg, last week.
Barcroft and his wife, Cathy, were returning home from a shopping trip when they were attacked.
Cathy was not hurt in the incident.
Police spokesperson Kim Cloete said, “A suspect, who is in his late 20s, was arrested in Tembisa on Friday. He appeared in court today [Monday].”
The case was postponed for seven days in order for an identity parade to take place.
The suspect is expected to apply for bail when the case resumes.
Barcroft is still in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Johannesburg's Sunninghill Hospital.
Chrysler SA said he is making progress.
